My 25 cent shelf

I got this adorable little shelf from a thrift store for 25 cents! I could not pass this up.

I painted this with acrylic paint (the color is Citron).

I used scraps of scrapbooking paper to decorate the inside of the shelf. I cut out what I wanted and used mod podge to stick it on.

Corner Shelf Makeover

I found a nice, wood corner shelf on craigslist for $5. I was bad about taking "before" pictures this time around, so just imagine a light color wood with no design.

I stained the shelf with black stain (that I got for free at the recycling plant-see "places I go" page). When that was fully dry, I sprayed a glaze over the entire shelf.

After that dried, I cut triangles to match the four tiers of the shelf. I used some vintage scrapbook paper I already had. I mod podged the triangles to the shelf. Overall, I am happy with my results, I do wish I would have cut straighter lines on the triangles. Here's what I ended up with:

Jewelry Box Makeover

I got this beauty at the thrift store for $1 (yes Mom, when you read this, you will know I spent a whole dollar on your Mother's Day gift!)

I wanted to give this more of a "shabby chic" feel and less of an "80's gold" feel.

Step 1: I painted the whole box with latex primer. I left the rose in tact, I wanted to leave a little bit of the vintage feel.

Step 2: When the primer dried, I painted over it with white acrylic paint.

Step 3: I even painted the glass because I knew I wanted to do a scrap paper mosaic over it. I cut up some pattered scrap paper and modge podged it on there.

Step 4: I hot glued some scrap fabric into the drawers to freshen it up and give the box a better look.

Step 5: I added a handle to the drawer above the rose. I used epoxy to hold it on there.

Step 6: I added some red accent color to the drawer knobs.

ALL DONE!

{what you can't see is the personalized message I wrote to my mom and modge podged to the top of the box, I thought it added something special}

Here's the finished product:

Giant Lamp!

I found a giant lamp at the thrift store and only paid $4 for it! Here's the step by step on how I made over this piece.

Tools:

• Fabric
• Liquid Stitch
• Ruffles!
• Wood Stain for the base of lamp

Step 1:

The first thing I did was stain the base of the lamp. It was a yellowish wood color and I thought it would look better as a deep cherry wood.

Step 2:

Remember back in school when they said you would use math in real life? Well, this is maybe the third time I have found this to be true. You're going to need to measure your shade to make sure you have the right amount of fabric. Measure the diameter, circumference and height of the shade. 

Step 3:

Use the liquid stitch to hold the fabric to the shade. Start with one line down the shade and begin to roll it up. Like so:

Step 4:

Secure the fabric with more Liquid Stitch after it is wrapped around the shade. Cut off excess fabric.

Step 5:

Tuck the fabric edges on the top and bottom of the shade and secure with more Liquid Stitch.

Step 6:

Add your ruffle! Secure with more Liquid Stitch.

Ta-da!! Beautiful giant lamp makeover!

Creating Crafting Space with Thrift Store Finds

It was time I designated a space to create my projects! Here are photos of how this progressed: (and I must get better about taking "before" photos!)

My desk:
Got it for "free" (I made a $5 donation) at a thrift store. It is an old sewing table. I painted it pink with acrylic paint and a sponge brush. I bought the drawer knobs from Michael's for $1 a piece.




My chair: Got this from Goodwill for $4. Spray painted it, and reupholstered it with $1 thrift store fabric.




My Storage: Got this from a thrift store for $5. I spray painted it yellow. I bought plain wood knobs from the hardware store and painted them with acrylic paint. Also got this amazing wine rack from the thrift store for $1. It fits mason jars perfectly! I found these vintage tins for $1, they are great for storage.



The inside: I plan to add a piece of shelving board later.




Another thrift store find. Shelf for $3. I was able to remove the bar to hold ribbon. I spray painted this as well. I bought the mason jars for .25 cents. They make fore great storage!

Shower caddy: got it for .25 cents. Spray painted it, more paint storage.
