Christmas Card Clean Up

Everything is more fun when you blog about it.

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday!

This is how I have decided to organize my Christmas cards from now on. They will be packed up with decorations and I will hopefully keep them organized by year so we can get them out and look back at the ones we received.

Product Review: eShakti

I am so happy eShakti gave me the chance to complete a product review for them!

First of all, communication with this company was excellent, and the dress got to me in record time (seriously, just a few days)!

The dress itself is beautiful. It's made of a quality fabric, nice and thick without being uncomfortable. The detail on this dress is very pretty. I love the ruffled straps and the corset top. Another thing I love about this dress...it has pockets! I am a sucker for pockets!

eShakti provides custom sizing for a variety of clothing items. I love their mission: Real Fashion for Real People!

Wishing to Establish Holiday Traditions...

This Christmas is a turning point for my family in more ways than one.

  • Nathan and I are celebrating our first married Christmas.
  • My sister and her family have moved back to St. Louis after living in California for a few years.
  • My grandmother on my mother's side (my nana) is in a rehabilitation facility, due to a fall and a seizure
  • My grandmother on my dad's side has moved to a retirement home due to a stroke.
  • And...OMG our Christmas routine is changing!
There was a slight tone of panic in my son's voice this morning as we discussed our plans for Christmas. This day has remained the exact same ever since he was born. Jasen is a creature of habit more than most children, and he tends to panic a little when things change.

Every year our Christmas routine goes as follows:
  • Jasen and I open presents from Santa at home
  • We head to grandma and grandpa's for the morning and more present time
  • We go to my aunt's house for a brunch and to spend time with my dad's side of the family
  • Christmas nap!
  • We go to my other aunt's house for dinner and to spend time with my mom's side of the family
This has been the "Christmas Routine" for as long as I can remember.

This holiday season has been filled with trips to the emergency room for my nana accompanied with shifts by each family member at the rehabilitation center. It has been anything but "normal" this year. With that being said, I am very grateful that my nana is alive and doing better each day.

The plans for Christmas day have been up in the air for weeks. The plan is to spend most of our day at the nursing facility with our nana. We won't be seeing anyone from my dad's side of the family this holiday season, with the exception of our trip to visit my grandma today. No holiday brunch. No big Christmas dinner.

The sudden shake in our traditions has made me want to establish my own traditions for my own growing family. We have always relied on the plans of others and have never made our own. Now that I am married, I feel like we have solidified our own family unit.

I read somewhere that married couples should move a few hours away from family during the first few years of marriage. This gives time to establish your own relationship and family, without the intervention of needs from other family members. Ever since I read this, it has stuck with me. I have never lived anywhere else besides St. Louis and I have always been extremely reliant on my family. We don't have the financial means to move anytime soon, but it is a thought that is always in my mind.

Both of my sisters have moved away and experienced new places, while I have remained here, the constant, due to my life choices. I am happy for them, but it makes me wonder what I have been missing out on in the world. As a single mom, I always have tried to do the "right" things. Go to college, work full time, provide for my son...moving and traveling just hasn't seemed to work into that plan.

I hope today to sit down with my husband and son and discuss how we can establish our own holiday traditions. It may be simple, like going to the movies together or taking a short trip. Lately, I have been feeling like I have been neglecting my own needs and the needs of my own family to be there for everyone else.

As my friend Sara told me, "It's like what they tell you on the air plane: secure your own oxygen mask before assisting others".

Blogger Secret Santa: Part 2

When I got home from work today, I got my special package from Secret Santa #2! I don't know how I got so lucky!

My gift is from Ashley at Oh Wells Instead of What Ifs.

She got me this beautiful Owl Cuff and super cute notepad! She is so thoughtful and knew how much I love anything owl. Thank you so much Ashley!

Secret Santa: Part 1

Hi Everyone! I was so excited to get a chance to participate in the Blogger Secret Santa Swap!

Here is the wonderful gift I received from Tricia at Today with the Tennery's:

My goofy son immediately stole one of my hand sanitizers, we love those!

I got to be the secret santa for Brenna over at Perfectly Imperfect Mom. I know she hasn't been blogging lately due to the passing of her mom and dad. My thoughts are with her, I can't imagine such a loss.

I put together a little package for her that included an owl earing and necklace set, some Christmas socks, peppermint Christmas chapstick and a sticky note meal plan organizer (there may have been more, but I can't remember...I should have taken a photo).

I call this Part 1 because I got a special email from someone stating that I have another gift on the way! I am very excited!

The Jukebox

When I was little, I loved going down to my grandparents basement to play the jukebox. I had never heard a single song played anywhere else but there. I was born with a love for music. I sang in competitions and played piano for a short time. I was a member of our school choir. I love musicals and my parents used to buy the musical score books so I could sing along (usually with my sister). Music can connect me to a memory and change my mood in an instant. I have a great ear for music, I can pick out a song the first time I hear it and can tell if it will be a hit or not.

I do nothing in my adult life that has to do with music, aside from random karaoke and sing-a-longs in the car. I don't have the nerves to sing in front of strangers anymore. A lot has changed. But I won't forget how as a kid, playing song after song on the jukebox kept me more than entertained.

The Spectacle {DIY Linky} #2

We had 16 awesome link ups last week, thank you everyone! It was REALLY hard to pick my favorites, but I think I have narrowed it down to three :)

The DIY Photo Coasters created by From a Miss to a Mrs. are such an amazing idea! Those tiles are super cheap from the hardware store. I would love to make some from Instagram pics!

I love the Toilet Paper Roll Pillow boxes from Create. Craft. Love. ! I can definitely get on board with anything that's adorable and free. I know I am usually in need of little gift boxes around the holidays.

I can't wait to try these Homemade Sugar Scrubs from Zoocutie Printables! I can just imagine that they smell delicious. I love homemade gift ideas!

I will be pinning all of my weekly favorites on Pinterest, you can find them HERE.

Product Review: Funbites=Fun for Mom

I am so happy to review the Funbites product! While these handy little cutters can be used for many things, I used mine for super quick cookie cutting the other night. They worked great! Instead of rolling each cookie into a tiny ball, I was able to quickly cut them into all of these cute little shapes.

Let me show you...

The Funbites, in heart shape and squares:

I rolled out my cookie dough about an inch thick.

Each one comes with a center that pops out.

I was being cautious not to cut myself on the sharp metal...when I realized...there is none! That makes me very happy. Anyone who has cut themselves on a sharp apple slicer can relate.

I had so many little cookies!

By the way, they were delicious!

I really do love this product  I can't wait to try it out on my sister's kids. I imagine this kitchen tool being a great help when I am preparing party food. This is great for kids and definitely fun for mom too.
